Back in October we were blessed by 27 young sixth-graders from “Little Country Church” out of Redding. They attended a “service camp” in the Manton area, and were excited to put their training to work. They polished apples for the Apple Festival, prepared the church garden for the winter weather, pruned the rosebushes, stacked and split firewood, polished the sanctuary furniture, and washed the inside and outside of the windows. They were such hard workers that we finished all of the jobs in one day, instead of two. Thus, the second day we decided to take them to Bluff Springs and across the flume to the Manton Cave. It was quite an adventure for “city kids” and some of them really stepped out of their comfort zone. They learned the true meaning of the verse found in Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” We were so proud that each and every one of them at least tried the adventures, despite being afraid.
