As You Pray This Week

From February 26-March 6, Brian and Carole Wechsler will be representing Village Missions at the Missions Conference of Grace Bible Church in Sun City, AZ. Pray for good contacts and many opportunities to acquaint people with the ministry of Village Missions.

Thank you for praying for Brian and Carole’s visit to the Barnabas Group East Bay. It went very well and several people indicated their interest in Village Missions, specifically in helping Village Missions increase awareness of its ministry in suburban and urban areas. You can read about and see pictures of the trip here. Please continue to pray as we process applications for our spring candidate school. Right now there appear to be nine candidates in the pipeline.

Also pray for accepted candidates to raise their support. Village Missionaries are required to raise a certain level of outside support before they can be placed on a field. We also have some candidates that need to sell their homes before they can begin serving with us. Please pray for the Lord to open doors!

Thank you for praying!

February 27: Dan & Donna Tanner, Tanwax, WA

Tanwax is nine miles west of Eatonville (a former logging town), in a beautiful rural setting just west of Mt. Rainier. Most folks here work about 30-50 minutes north in Tacoma, Seattle, and Puyallup.

Fifteen minutes in any direction are larger communities with several churches, but church attendance is a rather low priority for the general population.

Pray that our outreach and activities will be effective. Our aging congregation could use an infusion of younger adults. Ask the Lord to enlarge our hearts so that we can continue “loving the people” as we share the life-changing Word of God.

Brian Wechsler visited Tanwax Country Chapel in October to help celebrate the Tanners’ 20 years of serving Tanwax as well 25 years with Village Missions. You can see pictures of the church and anniversary by clicking here.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,
Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons, but they are helpless against our prayers.” –Sidlow Baxter

Please pray for the Missions Conference taking place at Lancaster Bible College this week. Pray for good contacts with students and that they will be receptive to God’s call on their lives.

Pray also as Brian Wechsler makes presentations at meetings of The Barnabas Group in California.

February 20: Ken & Kathy Wagstaff, Andover, ME

Located in the mountains of western Maine, this area is known for the logging industry and vacation spots. The Appalachian Trail runs through the town, there are several ski resorts, and many miles of snowmobile and 4-wheeler trails. We are also blessed with many beautiful large ponds and lakes.

Pray that God would continue to bless the church’s efforts in our children’s and youth ministries. Pray that our Faith Bible Institute will grow and continue to be a blessing to their lives as they minister to others.

Brian has posted a new article on his blog here. Read how his project of transferring old 8mm videos to DVDs prompted a reflection on Ephesians 5:15-16 and the New Year.

February 13: Samuel & Mary Hayford, Alder Flats, AB

Alder Flats Community Bible Church is the only church within a radius of about 200 km. Located at the foothills of the Rockies, this hamlet is near the resort of Buck Lake, which attracts many to the area in the summer. Farming, ranching, lumber, logging, oil, and gas industries have been here for decades, with no significant impact on population growth. However, large attendances at the two summer rodeos and at the winter & summer fish derbies contribute to the local economy. The country store closed years ago, but the gas station expanded its convenience store to cater to small needs. My heart goes out to the seniors I play floor curling with, who have no relationship with the Lord. Over the past year a few have passed on, and it hurts me that they keep resisting my outreach to them, preferring friendship only on a human level with me. Please pray for wisdom and sensitivity on my part. We thank the Lord for His unceasing supply of all our needs and for safety in our travels.

As you pray this week

Dear Praying Friends,

The greatest of all ministries is not eloquent speech, or munificent beneficence, or profound wisdom or untiring work, but the still hour, the touch of faith, the whisper of prayer, the silent ministry, that moves the hand that moves the universe.
–A. B. Simpson

Please pray for Village Missionaries in the heart of the country who are being buffeted by yet another winter storm.

Thank you for praying for Brian and Carole Wechsler’s trip to Pierceville, Kansas. God was at work! If you would like to read an account and see pictures, please visit Brian’s blog here.

Brian and Carole met a couple in Pierceville that God might eventually call into Village Missions after Bible school. Please pray that God will call many from our fields to serve with Village Missions. Imagine if one couple would come from each of our churches (220 not counting open fields) in the next six years!

Thank you for praying!

February 6: Nathan & Molly Sahlberg, Fond du Lac, MN

This neighborhood is located within the city limits of Duluth, MN. Duluth, a city of about 100,000 when combined with its neighboring port (Superior, WI), sits at the SW corner of Lake Superior. Many people here work in the local paper mills and in our local 148th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard.

Because of the economic downturn, many are struggling and out of work. Pray for us as we reach out to these people in a neighboring community through SonSeekers, our Wednesday night kids’ outreach, and other creative activities during the year. Pray for our church as we’re experiencing some growing pains. As in many churches, many marriages and families are hurting.

We are blessed with a wonderful associate pastor & wife who double our joys and halve our burdens. Please pray for Pastor Bryan and Laura, as well as our family.
