August 30, Bob and Patty Brown, Mossyrock, WA:

Mossyrock is beautifully located within minutes of two lakes, each with a hydro dam. Both lakes have multiple camping areas, which is a draw for our area. Christmas tree farming, chicken farms, fish hatcheries, blueberry farms, and a huge tulip bulb farm also surround us.

Pray for families with children to become part of our fellowship. We have willing teachers but no children for our Sunday School. Pray for our love within the church to reach out to those outside.

August 28: Steve & Sharon Waite, Wytopitlock, ME

Ours is a very small, very family oriented community of less than 200 people. Our two neighboring communities, Bancroft and Drew Plantation, are a little smaller and also friendly; they’re just west of the locally well-known East Grand Lake near Danforth.

These towns have been well known for hunting, fishing, logging. In recent years some have moved out to find work to meet family needs. The people of this area are survivors and know how to balance out the little they may possess. Many older people need help with various things throughout the year. Sharon and I have seen the need to be of help to many here and attempt to reduce the size of their “mountain” so that their days are manageable.

Pray for strength and wisdom in all we do and say. Pray that our children continue to stay close to the Lord. Pray for our extra traveling as our daughter begins college in New York State. Pray that men here would soften toward the gospel of Christ. Pray that God’s Word would be strong in the hearts of each believer. Pray that our church would remain steady in the work of the Lord.

August 21: Denis & Paula Pelland, Amaranth, MB

We are alongside Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, which is situated on Lake Manitoba. Commercial fishing in the middle of the Prairies and farming are the main occupations here. We are blessed to work with children in the community and the trust they give us is a privilege. We pray for their continued knowledge in Christ through Kid’s Club.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Please pray for Brian and Carole Wechsler as they travel to New York this week. Brian will be speaking at our field in North Lansing, NY (Faith Bible Fellowship), helping them celebrate reaching the minimum base salary of their missionaries, Jason and Kathi Berga. When the Bergas went to North Lansing in 2004, the church was unable to pay anything toward their salary. We praise God for how He has worked and provided!

Pray for the mini-conference that will be starting August 22 at the Word of Life Conference Center in Schroon Lake, NY. Pray that missionaries will have safe travel to the conference and a time of renewal and refreshment.

As we approach Candidate School in late September, please join us in praying for His wisdom that each one would be led to the place of service that God has prepared for them.

The individuals below are currently in the application process. Please pray as they seek His will in the matter of their service with Village Missions.

Jeff & Nydia, Arizona

Eric & Kristin, Florida

August 14: Jeremiah & Elizabeth Knoop, Scotia, NE

Nestled amongst palm trees at the corner of town, our little church just celebrated its centennial anniversary. Landscape: ocean beaches, golf courses, vineyards; major crops: sugar cane, grapes, coffee beans, coconuts; primary industry: fishing…well…that’s not entirely true. OK – not even slightly true!

While Chalk Hills Community Church has served this community for 100 years, the view from my office window is a giant field of corn; the landscape is primarily corn; the major crop is corn; and the primary industry is agriculture (farming corn). Yup, lots and lots of corn!

After years without a fulltime pastor, in a final attempt to keep the church doors open, Chalk Hills contacted Village Missions just over two years ago and have since been stuck with the Knoops! Our biggest prayer is that God continues to raise up leaders in our midst. The same folks have been leading Awana for the past 36 years and are looking forward to handing off the torch. We have many praises for how our Lord has been answering prayers these past two years (growth, provision, outreach opportunities, etc). This school year will be my 2nd season coaching the high school boys’ basketball team – an answered prayer for getting into the school!

Pray that we as a church body would continue to be faithful in seeking Jesus and not just His blessings.

Jeremiah is a talented musician who led music at our recent mini-conference in Balsam, MN, where his parents, Frank & Lynette Knoop, serve. Here’s a video of Jeremiah performing one of his original compositions.

August 7: David & Serena Carr, Lenwood, CA

Lenwood, a suburb of Barstow, is in the middle of the Mojave Desert in southern CA. This community, as with most across our nation today, is going through very tough times. We’ve seen several businesses close and jobs disappear. Although we do have major employment sources of the railroad and multiple military bases in the area, we struggle with a poverty rate 41% higher and a crime rate 34% higher than the national averages, which means that there is much need in the area.

Please pray that we, as a church, will never grow hardened of heart towards the needs of the people, the greatest need being a relationship with their Heavenly Father through His Son Christ Jesus, and that we will always be filled to overflowing with love and dignity towards all people.
