As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

When you receive this, our spring candidate school will be well underway. We have seven sharp couples who are seeking God’s will about serving with Village Missions – and the candidate school staff is seeking God’s will about them as well. The week is extremely intense – we discuss serious matters of ministry.

Pray especially for the chapel service on Thursday night at 7:00 pm at the Dallas Alliance Church – you’re more than welcome to attend if you are in the area. Interviews will take place Friday night where they will be asked about their call to Village Missions, among other things.

What happens when someone is accepted into Village Missions? They begin raising personal support, which they receive on top of the base salary support Village Missions and/or the church provides, less an operational service fee.

The candidate school staff and District Representatives will begin praying about the right placement but their placement won’t be determined until they are close to their support level. We will also begin praying about the finances Village Missions will need to place them. At our poorer fields, this will require $1,025 a month for our self-funded insurance and $1,700 a month for base salary–$32,700 to reach a community for Christ. Please pray that God will provide this amount – perhaps you would be the answer to that prayer!

Thank you for praying!

March 25: Walt & Yvonne Thomack, Valley Grove, NE

We’re in a sparsely populated area in the north-central part of the Sandhills of Nebraska, where ranching and farming are the main occupations. There are many older retired people here and not many young couples because most move away. Schools are small, everyone knows everyone else or are somehow related.

We have 7 churches in the community, and with strong family ties as well as denominational loyalties, it is hard to reach people for Christ or convince them they need to be in a good Bible-preaching church. We have no children in the church and most attendees are 60 or older. Pray that God would send us more people to attend our church who are hungry for God’s Word. Pray for more of our people to actively reach out to their friends and neighbors with the Gospel. Pray that God would supply for our church’s financial needs and praise for a large unexpected gift to the church to pay for parsonage utilities. Pray for spiritual revival in our church and in the community.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you for praying for Brian and Carole’s trip to Kansas and Arizona. The offering for Village Missions at Venture Out was $1575.00 – praise the Lord! In addition, we had a good meeting with a church interested in taking on a new field as a support project. Please pray for the working out of all the details involving this. Please pray for good friends of Village Missions, Larry and JoAnn Holbrook, as Larry battles very serious pancreatic cancer.

Please continue to pray for the health of our Village Missionaries and for our self-funded health plan. Our deficit for one month was over $200,000, due to several serious health situations that our missionaries are facing. Pray for healing and that our missionaries would be good testimonies as they interact with medical personnel. We know that God has a plan in all this!

Please pray for our upcoming candidate school, which starts March 26. Pray for each of the seven candidate couples as they make plans to attend and consider serving with Village Missions.

Pictures of our recent Village Missions Mini-Conference held at Cannon Beach, OR, February 28-March 1. You can view the pictures and read the account by clicking here. Please pray for the additional conferences that will be held in various locations in the spring and the summer.

Thank you for praying!

March 18: Keith & Valerie Williams, Lookingglass, OR

Lookingglass lies in a beautiful valley just west of Roseburg, nestled against the Coast Range Mountains in SW Oregon. Like so many areas, Lookingglass has been hit hard by the economy, affecting the timber industry. Please pray for the children’s ministries. We praise God for the effective Good News Club, but see few children in Sunday School and “Bible Discovery Zone.” Pray that families will be strong Christian families and for our outreach into the community to be effective. Pray also for the church finances to improve.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Please pray for a missionary wife and mother who is undergoing cancer treatments, and a missionary husband and father who has a brain tumor. Our Mission family has been faced with several significant illnesses in recent days.

Please pray for physical health for our Missionaries as many colds and flu are being passed around. Ask the Lord to provide extra grace to those who must press on in spite of physical infirmities.

Please pray for preparations as Candidate School at the end of March moves closer. Pray for a good crop of new Village Missionaries!

Thank you for praying!

March 11: Bill & Lorna Powell, Eastern Canadian District Representative

We live in Ontario, about 4 hours north of the provincial capital Toronto. Our town, Corbeil, is the birthplace of the Dionne quintuplets, born in 1934. Our community is primarily French-speaking and we are now making good friends with a number of our neighbours, even though we travel throughout the year. This is the heart of the Canadian Shield, with beautiful lakes, rivers, and fall colours. Travel takes much of our time as we visit Village Missionaries from NS to SK and the Bible Colleges from the Maritimes to AB. Pray for contacts with our neighbours while at home, and for opportunities to share Christ. Pray for our family; our oldest daughter got married at the end of January. Pray that we will be led by the Spirit to the right couples to serve with Village Missions and the right churches to be served by VM.
