July 1: Marshall & Hellen Faulkenberry, Red Cloud, NE

The Republican River Valley is in south-central NE, 8 miles north of KS and 18 miles north of the geographical center of the contiguous U.S. Congregational Bible Church has been in Red Cloud for nearly 140 years. Red Cloud’s population has declined over 45% (1,750 in 1950 to just over 950 today).

The Republican River provides scenic beauty and water for surrounding farmlands and ranches, and offers fishing, canoeing, and our annual community-wide Republican River Tank Float. Wildlife includes deer, turkeys, beavers, herons, coyotes, and foxes.

Pray as we minister to and develop relationships within the church and the community and as we attempt to change the perception of the community. Pray for the unchurched in Webster County; many do not feel they must attend church as they have “belonged” to a church in the community for 2-3 generations. Pray for our two men’s discipleship Bible studies and our women’s fellowship as we offer opportunities for adults to grow in their relationship with the Lord. Pray for our Kids4Truth children’s ministry as we break for the summer and have a big kickoff in September. Pray as we disciple our teens to lead in our children’s ministry and reach out to their peers. Pray for us as we cast a vision to our church family to “become a connected people, captivated by Christ Jesus, whose changed lives are changing lives.”

June 24: Donnie & Patty Kruse, Lave Hot Springs, ID

We’re located in SE Idaho and are a tourist destination because of our “World Famous” hot springs. Since we have a wide variety of people coming, we have a variety of cults here. It makes for a great opportunity to witness of the grace of Jesus Christ, but it also makes it a spiritually dark area. Please pray for our church challenge for this year. We are using Nehemiah 4: 6 as our verse of challenge: “So we built the wall and the whole wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.” We have put up a prayer wall in the church basement and are encouraging our people to take on the “building of a wall” with their prayers for this area. We are kneeling in expectation of what God will do for this area and this body of believers through faithful intercession.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you for praying for the Graeagle Summer Connection Conference. It was well attended and the missionaries left refreshed and renewed in ministry. We are especially thankful for the Graeagle Community Church in hosting this conference. I hope to post pictures of the conference soon.

Please now be in prayer for the mini-conference in Lava Hot Springs that will be held June 26-28 and the Western Canadian Staff Conference that will be held June 28-July 1 in Green Bay, British Columbia. Pray for the missionaries as they travel to these conferences and for a time of renewal and refreshment. Pray for the speaker at the Canadian conference, Pastor Jerry Franz, who pastors the Evangelical Bible Church in Dallas, OR. Also pray for journey mercies for Brian and Carole, as they will be attending both conferences.

Pray for great wisdom for the Village Missions Employee Benefit Board as it considers various options for providing health coverage for our missionaries. Our current self-funded plan is in a major deficit and major changes need to be made quickly. Please pray for the health of our missionaries.

We praise the Lord for several placements of new or returning missionaries that have been made in recent months!

Thank you for praying!

June 17: Matt & Stephanie Van Gorden, Bruin, PA

Nestled in Petroleum Valley about equal distance from Erie to the north and Pittsburgh to the south, Bruin is a small town with a changing population. Our area is economically depressed and the elementary school in town is closing after this school year, but we do still have a bowling alley, a small trucking company, and a gas station/deli in town. There are several small towns surrounding us, and major shopping is available about ½ hour in every direction.

Our church has had a long history, beginning in the late 1800′s, and Village Missions has served here since 1999. Please pray for wisdom and that the Lord would help us maintain a sense of mission and purpose during this time of community transition. Pray that we would experience greater commitment and unity in our local body and then be Christ’s hands and heart to our community.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Please pray for a mini-conference taking place in Graeagle, CA this week. Pray for safety as the missionary families travel and that they will be refreshed and renewed.

Please continue to pray as accepted candidates continue to raise personal support and prepare for appointment to churches.

Please continue to pray for the health and healing of our Village Missionaries and their family members. Our health plan continues to be in a very difficult situation and we are exploring several different options. Pray for wisdom for the Trustees who will be evaluating our options in the coming days.

Thank you for praying!

June 10: Terry & Jane Baskin, Grindrod, BC

Grindrod is a fairly quiet, little dairy farming and retirement community at the northern tip of the Okanogan Valley. There are many lives here, which are broken and empty as they are “lived out” in spiritual darkness. The village itself is composed of an elementary school, a feed mill, post office, saddle shop, corner store, a bar, our church and a couple hundred residents. With the surrounding community our population is about 1,300 people.

Our church building dates back to 1918. Through a (debt-free) expansion project in the last year, we now can comfortably seat about 100 people and have a bit more room for Sunday school kids. A great group of people make up our congregation. Our regular activities include a couple of weekly Bible Study groups, a youth group, men’s breakfasts, prayer meeting, and some outreach to a local seniors’ home.

One recent highlight is a growing involvement by our congregation in prayer and fasting for the needs of our church and community. Please pray with us that the Lord would enable us to reach out and minister to more of the younger families in this valley. We also ask you to pray for wisdom as we seek to rewrite our church constitution to better reflect who we are, and what the Lord wants us to be as we move ahead in serving our Wonderful Lord. Jane and I would appreciate prayer for us, that the Lord would continue to equip us to be godly parents to our six children and effective and joyful servants for His glory in this needy community.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you for praying for the Red Deer Donor Dinner! God answered prayer. Two weeks before the dinner we only had about six reservations but the reservations started to come in as you prayed and seventy attended the dinner – more than last year! We were able to raise about $14,000 at the dinner for Village Missions Canada. I also praise the Lord for the opportunity to preach at the Meadowbrook Community Church and attend their Sunday School picnic afterwards.

Pray for wisdom as we consider what to do next year in the Red Deer area. We are considering a barbecue/picnic to allow younger folks to attend.

Please continue to pray for the health and healing of our Village Missionaries and their family members and for wisdom for our board that manages our self-funded health plan. Our health plan continues to be in a very difficult situation and we are exploring several different options. Pray for wisdom as the U.S. Supreme Court decides this month about the health care act – this also has affected our plan somewhat.

This week we are conducting an abbreviated candidate school for one associate couple and one full-time couple. Sometimes we do this if a couple needs to be placed quickly. Pray for a valuable school and wisdom in acceptance and placement.

Please pray for the mini-conference in Graeagle, CA, that starts next Monday evening, July 11. Pray for safety as the missionary families travel and that they will be refreshed and renewed.

Thank you for praying!
