August 19: Cliff & Carol McMullen, Middleton, NH

In the southeast corner of New Hampshire, an hour from Portsmouth and 20 miles from Rochester, we’re just off Route 16 – the major north/south route in eastern NH. Middleton is at the lower east end of the Lakes Region, just 15 minutes from New Hampshire’s largest lake. There are two major employers: Middleton Building Supply & Sawmill employs about 60 people, and a New Truck Sales & Service employs about 30 people.

This is basically a bedroom community for Rochester, Dover, and Portsmouth. Middleton is unique in that it still maintains a very rural attitude – no major roads connect through the town. The population is about 1200, but in the summer that just about doubles. Spread out over a large area, the town has a small lake with summer/winter homes. The town center is made up of the Community Hall, Fire Dept., and Municipal Building/Police Dept. on one side of the road, with the parsonage and church on the other side. Pray that our church body will be a true gospel witness to the community. Pray for our children’s ministry, that we will see many boys and girls attend and come to know the Lord as their Savior.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; “And pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the
mystery of the gospel” (Ephesians 6:19).

Please pray for boldness for Village Missionaries as they have opportunity to openly proclaim our Lord Jesus Christ, just as a little girl at VBS did in Tony and Cathy Bittners story, below.

Please pray that churches in danger of closing will learn of the ministry of Village Missions. Normally, we have many more churches asking us for help than we have missionaries to send but right now, with progress in recruiting, we are seeking several more churches.

Please pray for the finances of Mission the churches we serve. Our move from a self-funded to group insurance has required an increase of $200 per month in the premium paid by the churches we serve. Village Missions will have to cover any of the amount that the churches are unable to pay. We estimate that we will need an additional $20,000 per month, at least initially. Please pray for God to supply this need!

Please pray for the eastern mini-conference next week at Word of Life Conference Center in Schroon Lake, NY. Pray for missionaries as they travel and for a time of renewal for them.

Assistant Director Mike Jones requests prayer for focused time with the Lord, and message preparation for two mini-conferences that he will attend this month.

Please pray for our candidates for the fall candidate school (Oct. 15-19) as they complete their formal applications. Pray for wisdom for the District Representatives as they interview candidates.

Thank you for praying!

Chad & Sarah Johnson, Cedar River, MI

Cedar River is a little over an hour north of Green Bay, WI, on the shoreline of the Green Bay/Lake Michigan. It’s a small retirement village with one bar/restaurant, one gas station/restaurant, and one church. There are also a couple of campgrounds within the area surrounding Cedar River. Numbers tend to fluctuate with the seasons, as snowbirds return for the summer, campers start showing up, and the elderly have an easier time getting out on Sundays.

Because of this, we don’t really back off our ministries in the summer, we add ministries in hope and prayer of reaching more and more people with the message of the Gospel. We’d be grateful if you’d pray for our summer ministries. I do a campground service on Saturday evenings through the summer months. It’s amazing the amount of people that consistently show up each Saturday. Pray for much of the same this summer. We’re set up right near surrounding campsites, so I make sure I yell extra hard for all to hear. Pray for boldness and God’s work in hearts. Pray for our men’s and women’s discipleship groups. Our men’s group has grown in the last year, which I’m excited about. And our women’s group has also been a huge encouragement to ladies in our church. Pray for the Word of the Lord to continue to spread in our little village, that it would be received humbly and joyfully. Thank you all.

Prayer Requests for this Week

Please pray for open doors for Village Missionaries as the summer months bring people outdoors. Pray especially for those who minister in recreational areas, like Chad and Sarah Johnson below, who see many vacationers in their communities.

Pray that the Lord will provide financially as the churches we serve are taking on a medical premium increase.

We praise the Lord that the pipeline is full of applicants for Candidate School this fall. Please pray for wisdom as the applications are processed that the Lord’s direction will be abundantly evident.

Please pray for Assistant Director Mike Jones and the District Representatives as they help churches and missionaries through some difficult situations.

Thank you for praying!

August 5: Alan & Bonnie Klein, Sutherlands River, NS

Our town is a bedroom community to New Glasgow and straddles the Trans-Canada Highway, heading east towards Cape Breton Island. Our area was once thriving in the days when coal mining was more active. We seek to preach the gospel in an area which is religious but has lost sight of the need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We have a great group of teens right now who are growing in their relationship with the Lord. Through midweek meetings and Sunday worship, we enjoy a spirit of thankfulness for what the Lord has done. Please pray that our church would continue to be a light to our community.

Prayer Requests for this Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you for praying for the folks around Springview, Nebraska, as they fought the surrounding grass fires. Village Missionary Mary Courts shared that, “We did get a little bit of rain and the lightning did not spark any new fires, so we are grateful to God for that answered prayer.”

Please pray for our Canadian Village Missionaries, many of whom are gathered at Capernwray Bible Centre in Quebec for their Eastern Canada Missionary Conference.

Thank you for praying!
