December 30: Sean & Jani Carney, Newell, SD

Newell is a farm/ranch community, about 40 miles N of the Black Hills. This has been a dry year, and many ranchers and farmers work other jobs to make ends meet. Lives are very busy, but the sense of community is strong.

The school is the center of community activity and we’ve been fortunate to be allowed to hold Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bible studies during middle/high school lunch hour. An outreach committee began in the church and has many exciting ventures planned. We look forward to what God has in store!

We’re also in the middle of a building project for a new sanctuary. It will be nice to finish the addition and have everything on one level, for those who struggle with stairs. Pray with us for our community outreach plans. Ask God to use our efforts in our community for His kingdom and glory. Pray that funds continue to come in for our building project in a timely manner.

As You Pray This Week

There is no wonder more supernatural and divine in the life of a believer than the mystery and ministry of prayer…the hand of the child touching the arm of the Father and moving the wheel of the universe.

–A. B. Simpson

Dear Praying Friends,

John MacArthur reminds us: “If we could condense all the truths of Christmas into only three words, these would be the words: “God with us.” We tend to focus our attention at Christmas on the infancy of Christ. The greater truth of the holiday is His deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this promised baby is the omnipotent Creator of the heavens and the earth!”

We wish you a Blessed Christmas!

Please uphold these Village Missionaries today:

Please pray for Jonthan and Dorlyn Elgby and their family.  Anna Elgby, sister of Jonathan,  was killed instantly in a head-on collision Thursday morning, December 20.  She was on her way to work on icy roads near the family home in Saskatchewan.  Anna was training as a nurse and looking ahead to missionary work in Haiti.

Pray for Randy and Dorothy Heinrichs – retired Village Missionaries. Dorothy is losing her battle with cancer. Her time may be short – she may be with the Lord for Christmas.

Please pray for Clem Morency, pastor of Arborg Christian Fellowship in Arborg Manitoba. Clem lost his wife Julie to a cerebral hemorrhage which caused a massive heart attack. This is a very difficult time for him. Pray for God’s comfort and enabling for him, as he faces this devastating loss.

Please pray for Tim Griffiths as he begins duties in January.as the Director of Stewardship for Village Missions.  Tim’s wife Gwen is the daughter of Village Missionaries Tom and Kathie Peyton, who serve in Mingo, Kansas.  Please pray for the Griffith’s family as they are presently moving from western Kansas to Dallas, Oregon.

Thank you for praying!

December 23: Craig & Shelley Curtis, Camp Creek, OR

We’re east of Eugene along scenic McKenzie River. We enjoy the rural aspects of the country, while being close to Oregon’s second largest city. Camp Creek has farming, ranching, and timber, but most people work in town. Our community has all ages but fewer young families, as property prices continue to rise.

The church is the main organization in Camp Creek, since the elementary school closed, and as such, the church is viewed as the center of the community. We’re happy to offer our facilities/grounds for community activities and events, so as to share the love of Christ through hospitality.

Please pray for God’s wisdom as we continue to shepherd His people. Pray for God’s vision for the church and for creative ways to more effectively reach our community for Jesus. Pray for our influence for the Lord in people’s lives through Sunday School, worship services, and youth group. Pray, too, for the effectiveness of our Small Group Ministry; pray for more small groups to form, and that more in the church would desire to be part of them. Pray for our Children’s Ministry, and for wisdom in what type of outreach program to have, since our local school is closed. Pray also for plans to expand our Fellowship Hall facility. Finally, pray that our church motto (Caring Enough To Make A Difference) will continue to be a reality and driving force in all our lives here at Camp Creek Church.

Prayer Requests for Canada

Roy Adrian, our Administrator in Canada asks for your prayer:

Today, December 18, is our day of fasting and prayer, where we fast and pray for the needs of Village Missions of Canada.

In light of the recent resignations of two of our young families, I ask that you pray for new recruits for our Mission.

Please pray for a friend of the Mission named Clem who serves in one of our churches. Clem lost his wife Julie to a cerebral hemorrhage which caused a massive heart attack. This is going to be a very difficult time for him. Pray for God’s comfort and enabling for him, as he faces this devastating loss.

Thank you for praying!

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

In this time of national tragedy and mourning for the several murdered teachers and students as well as the two people who were killed in Oregon, please pray that hearts would be open to the Gospel message.  At the time of Christ’s birth another terrible slaughter of infants occurred when Herod killed all the children two and under around Bethlehem (Mat. 2:16-18).  Pray that people would realize that Christ came to conquer the sin and evil in this world and that Christmas represents the first phase of His ultimate triumph.

We would ask you to pray for several ill missionaries:

Dean Bousman, who serves with his wife Gwen in Elk Creek, CA, had surgery on melanoma that had returned.  The tumor was much larger than the doctors expected.  He was released and came home early from the hospital Sunday night.  The healing from the surgery is looking good.  Dean praises the Lord for the wonderful people who are ministering to him (Gwen, congregation, doctors, nurses, etc.) and for the care he has and is receiving.  Please keep Dean in your prayers as he has multiple doctor appointments this week and his PET scan in January.

Patty Brown who serves with her husband Bob in Mossyrock, WA, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.  Please pray for healing and wisdom as they decide a course of action.

Donna Tanner serves with her husband Dan in Tanwax, WA.  After battling cancer for several years, Donna’s cancer has returned. Please pray for wisdom and healing.

Other requests:

Faith Clark, wife of Doug Clark, who is the Executive Director of Association of North American Missions.  Faith has just been diagnosed with a rare form of gastro-intestinal cancer.  Please pray for Doug and Faith as she is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow and will be in the hospital for 7-10 days following.

Village Missionary Gayle Stiener’s mom passed away on Saturday night.  Mike and Gayle who serve in Manton, CA, left Sunday after church to drive to Indiana.  Airline ticket costs at this time were prohibitive.  Please pray for their safety in travel during this winter season.  Pastor Mike will be conducting the funeral service on December 22nd.  Pray especially for Gayle and her family in their loss.

Please pray for faithful friends of Village Missions, Dale and his wife Bev.  Dale was operated on several weeks ago for pancreatic cancer.  He has had an extremely difficult time recovering from the extensive surgery and especially, eating on his own.

December 16: Stuart & Jennifer Guthrie, Seeley Lake, MT

Seeley Lake is a mill town in northwest Montana, about an hour north of Missoula and a few hours south of Glacier National Park. Seeley Lake has a population of approximately 2,500 people which nearly doubles over the summer but is continually fluctuating.

Mission Bible Fellowship sits directly in the middle of town. Please pray for Mission Bible Fellowship as we gear up with our winter programs. We are very excited about our new Sunday school classes and small group Bible studies. We are also starting to recruit volunteers to begin an AWANA program and with the start of hunting season and high school football many doors have started to open for outreach into the community.

Please pray that the Lord will have his hand in all of these opportunities and that He will be glorified.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, please pray that Village Missionaries will have opportunity to minster and share the Gospel with many open hearts.  Pray especially as many families on our fields are struggling financially.  We pray that the Lord will give Village Missionaries wisdom to know how to come alongside these hurting families.

Thank you so much for praying for the recent meetings of our RAVMI (Rural America Village Missions Initiative) committee. We had good discussions about how to assist and encourage leadership training in churches served by Village Missions.  We could sense that God was answering your prayers!  If you would like to see pictures of this meeting, please click on this link.

Roy and Lennie Adrian

(Prayer Requests for Canada)  Roy Adrian, our Administrator in Canada asks for your prayer:

This is the time of year when a lot of churches have their Annual General Meetings and re-evaluate their support for Village Missionaries.  Please pray that churches would share our burden for rural communities and see the value of supporting these “front line Missionaries.”

Thank you for praying!

Dec 9: Eric & Dawn Anderson, Bowdoin, ME

Bowdoin is a small town of 3,000, surrounded by larger towns and equidistant to Maine’s two principle cities: Augusta (state capital) and Portland (Maine’s largest city). It’s very much a bedroom community, with very little business or industry. The church is over 100 years old and has been served by VM for 12 years.

Our greatest community outreach at this time is to the children, with a vibrant Awana and VBS. Pray for our existing children’s ministry, and for development of a youth group. Pray for future male leadership. Pray for new converts of all ages to come and find BCBC a place to serve and be served. Pray for Dawn and me as we raise our three kids, and for our involvement with the local public school and volunteer fire department.

Prayer Requests for Canada

Roy Adrian, our Administrator in Canada asks for your prayer:

Several of our missionaries and missionary wives are struggling with significant health issues. Please pray for God’s sufficient grace for them.

Please pray for recruitment – we are slowly losing missionary families – we have too many churches waiting for leadership.

Thank you for praying!

Prayer Requests for this Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you for praying for the RAVMI (Rural America Village Missions Initiative) committee that is meeting in Dallas as you receive this prayer update. This initiative is designed to encourage discipleship, training of leaders, and ultimately the training of Village Missionaries at our own fields. Please pray for the committee members as they implement the ideas generated at the meeting. If you would like to see examples of schools developed by churches served by Village Missions you can click on the links to Contenders Bible SchoolContenders Bible College McKenna, and Servants Bible School.

Please uphold a missionary wife who is struggling with cancer.

At this time of year, please pray that Village Missionaries will have opportunity to minster and share the Gospel.  Pray especially as many families on our fields are struggling financially.  Give Village Missionaries wisdom to know how to come alongside these hurting families.
