Feb. 3: Rob & Debbie Hoffman, Gold River, BC

Gold River is an isolated community of about 1200 people on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Set in the midst of a mountainous rain forest, our annual rainfall is anywhere from 100″ to 150.” Such a wet climate makes an ideal environment for growing trees, and therefore forest-related industries are the main employers for all of Vancouver Island – which, by the way, is the longest island in North America. In addition to trees, the area abounds with lakes, rivers, caves, glaciers, black bear, deer, elk, and the densest population of cougar anywhere in the world!

Gold River also has a dense population of unchurched people. Most are indifferent to the Gospel rather than antagonistic, so our attempts at outreach are generally pretty well received, or at least tolerated. I (Rob) am called on by the community at large to do most of the weddings and funerals, and I’m invited to speak at special functions at the schools. And as Chaplain for the Legion, I get many opportunities to publicly present the Gospel. Good rapport on our First Nations Reserve and my oversight of the local food bank afford even more contacts with those outside the church.

Our church is small but pretty solid spiritually and growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, we’re lacking in younger people and would love to see more young families join our fellowship. In the 28 years that we have served Gold River through Village Missions, we’ve seen many changes in both the church and the community, some good and some not so much. But one thing hasn’t changed, and that is the need to “preach the Word and love the people.” May our great God help us to do so!

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Please be in prayer for the family of retired Village Missionary, George Elliott. George passed away last week at age 82.  George and his wife Frances served with Village Missions for 44 years, beginning in Lookout, California, in 1960, finishing their service in Kersey, CO, where they shepherded the church from 1983 – 2004.  The memorial service is this Saturday, Feb. 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kersey Community Church.

Please pray for Brian and Carole Wechsler as they continue their travels in Arizona.  Brian will speak Sunday morning briefly at Sunland East Chapel in Mesa and then speak at Palm West Community Church in Sun City West Sunday evening.  Please pray for wisdom for Sunland East Chapel as they consider adding Village Missions to their missions’ budget.  Perhaps your church would consider making Village Missions a part of its missions budget, as we seek to reach the rural areas of the U.S. and Canada for Christ.  Let us know!

Thank you again for praying for Brian and Carole’s trip to Michigan.  If you would like to see pictures of their visit to our new field in Falmouth, please click on this link.  Pictures of the new church building in Jennings will be posted soon.

Please pray for Assistant Director Mike Jones and District Representative John James as they visit students and make presentations at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City during Missions Week.  Pray for fruitful interaction with students and for the Lord to raise up future Village Missionaries.

Please continue to pray for the many in our Mission family that are enduring health issues.  Especially remember Dean Bousman who is undergoing cancer treatment.

Pray also that the Lord would direct churches in need of leadership to contact Village Missions.

Thank you for praying!

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Brian and Carole Wechsler thank you for praying for their trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  “We just had a wonderful visit with folks in Lansing and are anticipating our visit to Falmouth and Jennings.  By the time you get this we should be back home in Oregon.”

Please pray for Brian and Carole’s next trip which commences on Friday. They will be traveling to Phoenix and Brian will be speaking at Trinity Bible Church on Sunday morning.  Sunday evening he and Village Missionaries Dan and Cheryl Wuthrich will be speaking about their ministry in Mayer, AZ, as well as the ministry of Village Missions in general. If you are in the Phoenix area and would like to attend one of these meetings, you can find information about Trinity at this link.

Please be in prayer as we put the final touches on our 2012 Annual Report.  The report should be arriving in the mail in February.

Missionaries from the southwest are gathering near Merced, California, this week to enjoy a short getaway.  Please pray for their spiritual refreshment and mutual encouragement.
Assistant Director Mike Jones and his wife Judie will be spending some time this week at the CA getaway. Please pray that they will be an encouragement to the missionaries.

Please continue to pray for the many in our Mission family that are enduring health issues.

Pray for the couples from our fall Candidate School as they continue to raise the financial support they need to get to the field.  Pray that they will not grow weary in the process.

Canadian Regional Administrator, Roy Adrian and his wife Lennie, thank God for the remarkably good health they’ve experienced this winter.  “With all the flu that is going around, we have only had one down day. PTL! All of our ‘year-end’ office work is complete, and we thank you for your prayers on our behalf.  A special thank you goes out to all who pray and to all who give. God Bless you!”Please be in prayer for new missionaries in Canada as Roy and Canadian District Representatives Bill Powell and Henry Vandermeer make connections with potential workers.

Thank you for praying!

January 20: Tim & Fern Wyrick, Ridgway, MT

We are located in the very SE corner of Montana and are one of the most rural areas that VM serves. Our church is in the middle of a pasture, over 40 miles to the nearest town/gas/store. Our community is 100% agricultural; mainly ranching with a little sprinkling of farming for diversity. We’ve served the Lord together here for a little over 11 years now. We need rain…we’ve been hit pretty hard by drought this last year and its effects are really beginning to show, as people are deciding how and what to do with their livestock.

Pray for the church as we try some new studies on Sunday nights until calving/lambing starts. Last year we had a very special time together doing the TRUTH PROJECT; this year we’d like to try to build on that with a new study.  Praise God that many of the younger generation are getting married and moving home. Pray that they would be able to stay and would find their place both on the ranch and in the church.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Please be in prayer for Brian and Carole as they are in Michigan.  Brian will be preaching January 20 at the Clam River Chapel, our new field in Falmouth, MI.  This field has been served by new Village Missionaries Seth and Julie Finch since November.  The church is located east and a little south of Cadillac and is near our field in Jennings.  Brian and Carole will also be visiting Larry and Kathy Shetenhelm, who serve in Jennings.  Please pray for safety and that we will be an encouragement to our missionaries.

Roy & Lennie Adrian ask you to keep them in prayer as they do all the year-end tasks related to the processing and receipting of donations in Canada. Thank you to all who support Village Missions of Canada through your giving and your prayers.

Please pray for the memorial service for Donna Tanner that will be held January 20th at the Tanwax Country Chapel in Eatonville, WA.  Please continue to pray for comfort for Dan and the rest of his family.

Missionaries in the Southwest will be getting together for a couple’s getaway in California next week.  Please pray that the missionaries will be encouraged and enjoy some time together.

Pray for the interviews being conducted by our District Representatives with couples planning to attend the spring school.

Pray for our churches as many struggle with meeting financial obligations.

Thank you for praying!

Jan 13: Joseph & Margaret Giesbrecht, Willow River, BC

Willow River is located 45 minutes northeast of Prince George, BC. We are close to the Rocky Mountains, in a beautiful valley that protects us from the wind most of the year. Many of the homes here have tin roofs so the snow will slide off, and the snow often peaks on the fence posts. We are looking forward to the new school, announced by the provincial government, that is coming to our community in September 2013.

Our prayer requests: salvation for the lost in our community; spiritual growth, protection, and guidance for our family and church body; our youth group and youth leaders; the new school and all the details involved, coming September 2013; and the new water and sewer system for our community in 2015.

As You Pray This Week

Dear Praying Friends,

Please pray for candidates who are making application for the spring candidate school, and for Assistant Director Mike Jones and the District Representatives as they make decisions that will affect the candidates.

Mike and Judie Jones, along with Dan and Cheryl Wuthrich, who serve in Mayer, AZ, are presenting at the Southwest Regional meeting of Association of North American Missions.  If you are in the Scottsdale area, you are welcome to join us at  Immanuel Bible Church Thursday evening at 7 pm for worship.

Please continue to pray for Faith Clark, wife of Doug Clark, who is the Executive Director of Association of North American Missions.  Faith underwent surgery for a rare form of gastro-intestinal cancer.  Please pray that Faith will be able to go home to begin the complete recovery and strength building process.

Praise the Lord that Tim and Gwen Griffiths and their three children safely arrived in Dallas, OR, this week.  Please pray for Tim as he gets started in his position as Director of Stewardship for Village Missions.

Thank you for praying!

Prayer Requests for Canada

Roy Adrian, our Administrator in Canada, asks for your prayer:

I want to take this opportunity to wish all of our prayer partners a very happy and blessed new year, as you walk with Lord, and serve Him where He has planted you.

As we begin this new year, let us have prayer as our first line of action, calling on the Lord to supply all that we need in terms of finances and personnel, in order for us to fulfill God’s purposes for our Mission. Recent resignations highlight our need of new missionaries. Let us pray that God would send us several young couples this year, to replace the ones we have lost.

Thank you for praying!

Promoted to Glory

After a long battle with cancer and a  relatively peaceful last few days, Donna Tanner stepped into the presence of our Lord.  Please pray for her husband Dan, the family, and the Tanwax Chapel family as we mourn their loss.  A memorial service is planned at Tanwax Chapel on Sunday, January 20th, at 2 p.m.
