September 29: Samuel & Mary Hayford, Alder Flats, AB

Located in cowboy country, Alder Flats sits at the foothills of the Rockies. Farming and lumber create modest income; oil, gas, and tourism also contribute to the local economy. The history of the community and Alder Flats Community Bible Church are interwoven, stretching as far back as the 1930s. The church has seen many transitions, but the Lord has sustained it through many upheavals. Alder Flats Church may not have an impressive attendance on any given Sunday, but it has had great respect and trust of this small community, from when Village Missions came to the rescue over a decade ago. This hamlet deserves positive mention for its support to keep this church running from its inception to the present time. Since the closure of a neighboring church a few years ago, our church has been the only house of worship in this vast area, although we’re a small community. Church activities have dwindled over the years to only Sunday morning worship, often preceded by adult Bible study. Summer VBS also attracts an appreciable number of children. Pray for the community schools and staff, local restaurant workers, oil and gas industry workers, families of the children who attend VBS, and the youth of this area. Pray also that the Lord would use our social involvement to advance His cause and purpose of the church in this area.

As You Pray This Week

Brian and Carole say, “Thank you for your prayers on our behalf for our latest trip. Over a period of two weeks, we were in seven states (some just passing through) and had several meetings.  I represented Village Missions at Lake of the Woods Church’s Missions Conference in Locust Grove, VA, and preached at our field in Olmstedville, NY, served for the last 15 years by Chad and Jenny Haneman.  God presented both expected and unexpected opportunities to present the ministry of Village Missions.  God blessed us to be able to visit Ray Bell in New Jersey.  Ray and Martha Bell were our Village Missionaries when we arrived as newlyweds in Fernwood, ID.  We are in the ministry today because of the Bells.  Please be in prayer for Ray–Martha passed away on July 30 and Ray will be having knee surgery in October.  I have a huge backload of pictures, but you eventually will see photos of many of these visits.”

Please pray for our Associate Orientation being held October 1-2 in Dallas, OR. Pray that these couples will be available soon to help us with the many churches still waiting for leadership.

Pray for our District Representatives as they visit churches and meet with boards and church members. Pray that they will be an encouragement to both and a help when and where needed.

Pray for our recruiting at various schools this fall and that we will have a large candidate school in the spring.

Please pray for the Match 65 Fund campaign as we strive to raise $10,000 to take advantage of the matching gift that was generously given to Village Missions.

In early October, Henry and Marilyn Vandermeer and Roy Adrian will be at the Global Ministries Conference at PRBI, a Bible College in Northern Alberta, near Grande Prairie. They are attending this conference to meet new students and to initiate relationships with those who may be available for Village Missions at some point.

September 22: Walt & Rosanna Jacoby, SW District Representatives

We serve 29 Village Missionaries and 31 churches in California, Arizona, and Nevada, the Southwest District of Village Missions. Please pray that the Lord will raise up Village Missionaries to serve at Hinkley, CA, and Rancho Tehama, CA. Pray for VMers, Dean & Gwen Bousman, serving at Elk Creek, CA. Dean is dealing with melanoma cancer. Pray that the Lord will bless the Bousmans with His peace, strength, provision, and grace as they journey on this road together. Please pray that the Lord will use us for His glory in being His encouragement and blessing to the Village Missionaries and churches we are privileged to serve. Pray that we will always have the Lord’s wisdom in making godly decisions in life and ministry. We praise and thank the Lord for His faithfulness to us.

As You Pray This Week

Pray for our last mini-conference of the season being held September 16-19 at Word of Life Bible Institute in NY. Several missionary couples, along with our Eastern District Representatives, Keith and Kris Hillard, and our Director, Brian and Carole Wechsler, will be attending. Pray that those attending will be encouraged and ready to return to ministry.

Pray for two interns in the process of raising support so we can place them with their mentoring missionary and church. Pray for more mentoring churches in the Midwest and East.

Pray for the many churches now without spiritual leadership that God will come alongside them in a special way as they await a new missionary couple.

Some dear friends of ours, former Village Missionaries, are suffering various ailments in their old age. Pray for Randy and Dorothy Heinrichs – Dorothy has cancer and Randy has contracted some kind of intestinal complication. They are both physically weak, but trusting in the Lord day by day.

September 15: David & Sheila McIlroy, Starbuck, WA

Starbuck is not an affiliate of Starbucks Coffee! And believe it or not, there is no Starbucks in town! We are located four miles from the Snake River in southeastern Washington. We have a hot and dry climate with mild winters. We are close to the borders of both Oregon and Idaho. Ranching, farming, and the Snake River dams are the main source of income for the area. After nearly 60 years with Village Missions, we recently became self-supporting. We also recently finished an addition to our sanctuary (debt-free). Pray that we don’t become comfortable and complacent in our new addition. We need younger people to take on responsibilities that the older generation is carrying now.  Pray for all of us to be faithful as we minister to our community and the surrounding areas and to keep our focus on Jesus.

As You Pray This Week

Brian and Carole will have several more meetings and visits in Virginia throughout the week and then will make their way up to Word of Life for our mini-conference. Brian will speak at Grace Bible Fellowship in Olmstedville, NY, on September 15. Please pray!

Mike Jones recently returned from speaking at a Leadership Conference in AR.  Please pray for Rock Haven Ministries and their staff as they decide on future ministry, as well as the local pastors who attended–that God will use the messages they heard to encourage and help them.

Following that, Mike Jones spent some time on the campus of Dallas Theological Seminary, meeting with several students and staff. Many were interested in Village Missions and the staff is interested in joining with us in our internship program. Pray that God will use the time to move some to serve with us.

September 13-17 Judie and Mike Jones will be in northern Minnesota visiting several churches, and Mike will speak at our church in Fond du Lac. Pray that the time will be effective and an encouragement to both the churches and missionaries.

Please pray for candidates for Village Missions Canada. We have approximately 10 fields waiting for leadership, and we have no new candidates in the application process. ‘God is Faithful!’

September 8: Michael and Gayle Stiener, Manton, CA

In the northern CA foothills, SE of Redding by Mt. Lassen, Manton is a town of about 500 people – with only our church, a grade school, cemetery, diner, bar, and post office. Employment opportunities are in Redding and Red Bluff, about forty miles away.  Most are retired or on disability. Please pray for our Manton children,  many of whom are born into families of drug and alcohol addiction.  Praise God that we have the opportunity to plant seeds of the Gospel every week at Release Time during the school year. The school has only 36 children, but 22 attend our weekly program. Though we have a small church, we are unified. Pray for comfort for those seniors in our older congregation with long-term health problems.

As You Pray This Week

Brian and Carole will be presenting Village Missions at Lake of the Woods Church in Locust Grove, VA, this Saturday (Sept 7) at 1:30 pm  and then taking part in their Missions Expo on Sunday.   Please pray for safety in travel and for good attendance at the meetings.

Brian will be speaking to the Straw Hat ‘Hers’ Club in Roanoke, VA, Monday at 9:00 am. This club gives generously to Village Missions. Again, please pray for safety in travel and good attendance.

Brian and Carole will have several more meetings and visits in Virginia throughout the week and then will make their way up to Word of Life for our mini-conference. Brian will speak at Grace Bible Fellowship in Olmstedville, NY, on September 15. Please pray!

Thank you for praying for the ground breaking ceremony at our field in Avenal, CA. It was well attended and a wonderful start to their new church building.

Village Missions has received the new video on Scotia, NE.   The new video should be online over the next week.

Roy Adrian says, “I was visiting a neighbor the other day and he told me about a friend of his who has become interested in reading the Bible. Problem is, the man is very dyslexic and has an extremely hard time reading. So I am getting an audio Bible for him. Pray for this gentleman – I don’t know his name yet, but hope to meet him personally in the near future.”

Thank you for praying for  John James, Sam and Mary Courts, and Tim Griffiths as we represented Village Missions at the Lifelight Festival in Sioux Falls, SD, over Labor Day weekend.  We were able to talk with many people about the ministry and reconnect with friends and family.
