November 3: Gary & Patsy Semenyna, Wasa Lake, BC

Wasa Lake is in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, with the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Purcell Mountains to the west. The area is a virtual playground with golf courses, lakes, fishing, hiking, bike trails, and skiing in the area. The main industry in the area is forestry, as there is a pulp mill nearby and a lumber mill about ½-hour away. Pray that we as a Church can continue to grow and mature in our faith and walk with the Lord.  Personally, God has taken us through some challenging times, but we have become stronger in our faith and in our resolve to be faithful to our Lord and Saviour.

As You Pray This Week

Brian will be traveling to Edmonton, Alberta, on October 30 to attend Village Missions Canada District Representative meeting and the board meetings.  Please pray for safe travel for all those involved.  Please also pray for wisdom, especially as we address the need for recruiting as well as some financial challenges.  Also, please pray for Brian as he speaks at the Bezanson Community Church in Bezanson, Alberta, on November 3.  Bezanson Community Church, a former field, generously supports Village Missions.

Please pray for the upcoming U.S. board meeting on November 6.  We will be welcoming our new board members, Peter Corak, from our Lake Tapps, WA, field and William Nicholson, from our Sauvie Island, OR, field.

This week (Oct. 28-31) Mike Jones and Jim Cross will be attending at the ANAM (Association of North American Missions) Conference in Phoenix, AZ.  Mike Jones will be presenting “The Next Elisha: Identifying Future Leaders” and “Community” at the conference.  Pray that God will use these sessions in the lives of people and organizations.

Roy Adrian writes, “I ask you to pray for travel safety for all the board members as we meet in Edmonton for the Village Missions of Canada Board meeting. Pray for vision and wisdom as we discuss goals and priorities for the coming years.”

Your Country Prayer Matters

Praying

Please pray for ongoing wisdom for our Village Missions Employee Benefit Board as they meet with our health consultants regarding the options and premiums for the health insurance we provide Village Missionaries.  With some adjustments to our coverage, it appears that we might not have a premium increase or a small one. We are still in the negotiation stage, so please pray!

On October 31 Bill Powell, Henry Vandermeer and Roy Adrian will be meeting with Executive Director Brian Wechsler, in Edmonton, Alberta, to discuss issues relating to Village Missions Canada. On the following two days, (November 1-2) the Canadian board will hold its fall board meeting in Edmonton as well. Pray for travel safety and for wisdom and the leading of the Holy Spirit as we meet together.  We praise God for the wonderful fellowship we enjoy as board members.

Judie and Mike Jones will be visiting our Navajo church at Defiance, NM. Pray that our time there will be an encouragement to both the church and our missionaries, Jimmy and Nevey Francisco. The Franciscos have gone through a lot of heartache these past months with the death of Jimmy’s dad and other issues.

Pray for our Navajo consultants, Nelson and Geree Betoney. They have been under a lot of financial pressure the last couple of years since Geree lost her job at the school due to financial cutbacks. Pray that Nelson will be able to make some contacts on the reservation to introduce us to churches. He has been visiting the Indian Bible College in Flagstaff, AZ, seeking to recruit Navajo pastors. Pray that effort will result in some good contacts.

Franklin & Lynnette Knoop, Balsam, MN

We are located approximately 100 miles northwest of Duluth, MN. The main industries in the area are tourism, logging, and the iron mines. Please pray that always, and in all things, Christ would have the preeminence (Colossians 1:18). Thank you for praying.

October 20: Nick & Marian Castillo, Mohawk, OR

We are located in Western Oregon, six miles from Springfield and Eugene. Our beautiful valley includes logging industry and a few ranches and farms. Many have “hobby farms” but work in town. Our area, with its covered bridges and the Mohawk River, was the filming place of the old Jimmy Stewart movie “Shenandoah.” Mohawk itself now boasts a General Store, Rifle Range, Country Club, Meat Packing Plant, a charter school, and, of course, the Mohawk Community Church where we have served with Village Missions for the past 22 years. Village Missions has a long history here and was here in the 60′s and 70′s. We were married here in 1971 and  returned here in 1991 to serve the Lord. Fishing, hiking, hunting, biking, and river rafting are just a few of the recreational possibilities here. We have a new sanctuary and are anxious to see the Lord fill it up! Pray for wisdom and especially that new young families might be attracted to our church.

October 13:Ed & Ruth Peters, Garrington, AB

We are located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains (a great view most days), surrounded by hay, grain, and cow/calf farms, and many oil/gas wells – about an hour north of Calgary. Garrington Community Church and the parsonage are on a 5-acre parcel next to the highway, surrounded by barley and hay fields – the closest home is over ¼ mile away. With recent ministry opportunities that God has provided, a good witness for Him has been given.

We ask that you pray that God would continue to minister to people from our surrounding community, many of whom are hurting because of losses that they have experienced in the past months. Pray that we, as a church family, would utilize the open doors for ministry that God is providing. Pray that our preparations for the celebration of the birth of Christ would be empowered and used by God’s Holy Spirit to reach our community for Him. As a family, we praise God for 3 new grandchildren over the summer – pray for the three families, particularly our daughter as she and her husband are in the process of trying to adopt the 4-month-old that they are presently fostering.

As You Pray This Week

Please be in prayer for Brian and Carole as they travel to Michigan to participate in the dedication of the new church building of the Jennings Community Church.  Village Missions sent Larry and Kathy Shetenhelm to Jennings (east of Cadillac) in January 2006.  They found a congregation of eight people.  In the early years Village Missions paid all of the Shetenhelm’s health insurance and base salary but the church grew, became self-supporting, and then outgrew their current facilities.  They have built this building without incurring debt.  Over the years we’ve produced some videos about Jennings.  Click on They Are Not Forgotten to see a video that portrays some of the challenges the Shetenhelms found and Jennings, MI: A New Season of Hope, which shows how the church began to grow.

Brian will then be representing Village Missions at the Moody Bible Institute Missions Conference October 15-18, along with Village Missionaries Phil Rownd and Jeremy Sarver.  Please pray for good contacts with students and that God would call some to serve with us.

Roy Adrian writes, “I am at Peace River Bible Institute near Grande Prairie Alberta. We just learned that a former teacher here and his wife, now serving in Uganda (Dave and Janna McPhee) lost their newborn baby girl. Please pray for this grieving couple. Also pray for relationship building with students who show an interest in our Mission.”

Thank you for praying for Tim & Gwen Griffiths as they traveled to the STEER Conference in Bismarck, ND.   Village Missions has money available for farmers/ranchers to buy a cow to raise to support Village Missions through STEER, Inc.   If you would be interested in finding out more about this project please contact Tim Griffiths at 800-617-9905 #116.

October 6: David & Ninette Cox, Oriskany, VA

Oriskany is located in southwest Virginia at the base of the Shenandoah Valley, surrounded by the Jefferson National Forest. This is an old mining town whose mines closed almost a century ago. Where there used to be almost 2000 people with a railroad line, 3 churches, 5 stores, and 3 gas stations, there is now one church and one post office. All the others closed, burned, or were abandoned. We have a few farmers in the area, and a number of retired folks. Others drive south over the mountains to work in Roanoke or north to a paper mill in Covington. We tell people that Oriskany is a small place where God is doing big things.
In our 21 years here, we have been encouraged to see God change lives. David teaches the Bible in three public elementary schools of our county and serves as chaplain for the fire and rescue squads. Pray that our interaction with those of our community will lead to their trust in the Lord. Pray we will be faithful in our many tasks. Pray for the young children David teaches in the schools that they will respond to the Lord in faith.

As You Pray This Week

Brian and Carole are praising the Lord for their recent visit to Oriskany, VA (see Spotlight article).  Although not there over a Sunday, they were able to stay with Dave and Ninette Cox and meet with church folks.  If you would like to see pictures of Oriskany (including the post office) please click on this link.

On October 13, Brian and Carole will be visiting the Jennings Community Church to help celebrate the dedication of their new building.  Pray for the congregation as they finish the building and prepare for the dedication service.  Their new church building is debt free!  If you would like to see pictures of the construction beginning last winter please click on this link.

Also, please pray for Brian, Phil Rownd, and Jeremy Sarver as they prepare to represent Village Missions at the Moody Bible Institute Missions Conference, starting October 15.

Village Missions has several younger couples applying to serve with us in year-long internships. Pray that we will have enough mentors available to help these couples prepare for ministry, and that our churches will be able to provide housing.

Pray also that we will have sufficient funding for salary and medical expenses. Pray for wisdom in assigning these couples to just the right place.

We are so thankful for the wonderful response that we have received for the Match 65 Campaign.   We have just a week and a half to go in collecting funds for this matching gift.   If you would like to give online please follow the link or send your check to Village Missions with a note saying, “Match 65″.   Thank you for your support.

Thank you all so much for praying for Village Missions. – Pray for travel safety for Roy Adrian as he visits Peace River Bible Institute next week, and pray that they will be able to begin to build relationships with potential candidates.

Tim and Gwen Griffiths will be traveling to Bismarck, ND, to attend the STEER Conference.    STEER is a way for farmers and ranchers to use their time, resources and talent to benefit the kingdom of God.  Village Missions has several animal units that can be used at this point in time.   Please contact Tim Griffiths for more information:  800-617-9905 #116.
