February 2: Jonathan & Doralyn Elgby, Ear Falls, ON

elgbyWe live in a remote town in northern Ontario, a beautiful area with lots of lakes and trees. The main industries include a gold mine, tourism, logging, and a hydro dam on the edge of town. We have been blessed by people from the community that have been coming out to our services. Pray that God would open their hearts to the gospel, and that they would come to truly know Him. We have also been blessed by a Christian Junior-A hockey player that came to our town and has gotten very involved in our church. Pray that God would continue to work in and through him. Pray for strength for the ministry and the God would give wisdom to priorities well in the coming days. Pray for strength for Doralyn as she is busy with our new baby Luke and taking care of Annika and Michael.

AS YOU PRAY THIS WEEK

cross prayingYou will soon be receiving (or perhaps have already) our annual report if you are on our mailing list. We praise God for His faithfulness over the past year in providing for Village Missions. Although over the years we have had to make some reductions in administrative staff and salaries, we have never had to say no to a church that has asked us for help and have always had the funds to provide the salary and health benefits for our missionaries at fields that pay below our minimum salary level. We praise Him also that with the Contenders Discipleship Initiative we have the prospect of having more workers for the harvest. Please continue to pray for this Initiative-the class videos and educational materials continue to be produced.  For the United States, the Annual Report, audited financial statements, and IRS Form 990 are available at  http://www.village-missions.org/annualreport/.

Roy and Lennie Adrian write, “We thank God for a wonderful winter vacation. Hawaii was lovely! We are asking you to pray for Lennie’s sister Frieda. She is in the fight of her life! She has just begun chemo treatments for cancer. It is already stage 4, so unless God works a miracle she does not have much hope. ‘But He is able!’”

Mike Jones will be at Calvary Bible College for their winter mission conference. Please pray for our recruiting efforts and for the two seminars he will be doing.

Pray for the missionaries who attended the California conference last week, that they will be encouraged as they head back to their churches and ministries.

Pray for our application process as my Administrative Assistant, Lisa West, works at getting all the paperwork in order for our spring Candidate School. It looks like we may have 9 couples attending. We currently have 17 churches in the US and 8 churches in Canada waiting for leadership.  Pray for those churches as they patiently wait for a new leader.

January 26: Phil & Valorie Rownd, Stanley, IA

Rownd, Phil ValStanley is a town of 100 surrounded by farms. Stanley Union Church was founded by the pioneers in 1887 and joined Village Missions in 1985. The town is home to Kountry Ken’s used car dealership, Iowa Farm Automation, the fire department, and the church. The citizens of Stanley shop and go to school in larger towns, and many of our church members come from those larger towns. Much of our congregation is getting old and tired, and we need to be thinking about the next generation of leaders. Pray that the Men’s Mentoring training will produce godly men. The youth group has grown from 4 kids on Wednesday nights now up to 25. Most of our new teens come from non-Christian homes, so pray that God will grip their hearts tightly! Pray for an open door to take the youth on a mission trip this summer.

Please pray for our own children: Andrew (10), Carole (8), and Caleb (4), for strong faith and love for Jesus. Andrew and Carole have special needs – pray for wisdom for Val and me. Pray for the dads and moms of our young families to faithfully instruct their kids in the Lord. And pray that God will be glorified as our building committee raises funds and makes plans for an addition to the church building. Pray that the church will be a blessing to all of Stanley.

AS YOU PRAY THIS WEEK

boy prayingWe have several upcoming meetings involving the Village Missions Contenders Discipleship Initiative. Class sessions are being videotaped and developed for online and DVD use and supplemental educational materials are also being developed. Please pray for wisdom for the mentoring component, especially for individuals who take the courses who do not attend a church served by Village Missions. We praise the Lord for a good response to the funding needs for this initiative. Praise that a company in Canada has volunteered to design a logo. Please pray for wisdom as they work on the design.

Judie and Mike Jones will be attending a mini conference in California this week. Please pray that those attending will be encouraged and ready to head back to their churches. Pray for the main speaker who will be bring a series on spiritual leadership. Mike will also have a session and give a mission update.

Pray for our application process as my Administrative Assistant, Lisa West, works at getting all the paperwork in order for our spring Candidate school. It looks like we may have 9 couples attending. January 19 : Bill & Lorna Powell, Eastern Canadian District Representatives

powellWe live in a small French-speaking community on the Quebec/Ontario border about 3 hours north of Toronto. It is a bedroom community to North Bay, about 20 minutes away to the NW. The area is famous as the home of the Dionne Quintuplets. Numerous lakes and rivers make this area popular for recreation, fishing, and hunting. The predominant landscape is the Canadian Shield with the many hardwood trees that produce the beautiful fall colours each year. Since Lorna and I travel most of Canada as the Eastern Canadian District Representatives, we would love to know that you are praying for our safety. We visit Village Missionaries from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia, and speak at the Bible Colleges from New Brunswick to Alberta. Our prayer is that we will always be an encouragement to those we visit and that we will depend upon God’s grace for the strength to share His love.

AS YOU PRAY THIS WEEK

We thank the Lord for all those who gave generously to Village Missions at year’s end, and, of course, throughout the year.  We are still tallying the results in both the U.S. and Canada but it appears that Village Missions endedpraisethelord the year in a strong financial position. One prayer I have for the coming year is that our partners in praying and giving will realize the difference they are making in people’s lives all across our two countries.  2014 will probably be filled with its share of bad news but the good news is that the Good News is being heard in many communities where otherwise there would be no church.  If you ever happen to be discouraged in the coming year take great encouragement by the eternal good you are bringing to people’s lives.

Report on Contender’s Discipleship Initiative: Videotaping of the first class, Bible Study Methods and Bibliology, has been completed atMachias Community Church.  Please pray as the sessions are rendered into a form suitable for distribution and as web page design is begun.

We are in the final stages of processing formal applications for our spring candidate school.  The next stages include background checks, reference forms, and interviews in the home by the District Representatives in the candidate’s homes. Please pray that God will use all aspects of this process to call people to serve in the forgotten communities of our two countries.  As of now, we have received six applications, with perhaps a few more on the way.

Please pray for our Village Missions churches that are awaiting a full time Village Missionary.   Currently, we have 17 churches in the United States and 8 churches in Canada that need missionary pastors.

Please pray for Brian as he travels Wednesday, January 8th to Arizona to attend the ANAM (Association of North American Missions) Southwest Regional Conference.  On Wednesday Dan Wuthrich, a Village Missionary serving in Mayer, AZ and former attorney will present “Handling Conflict While Avoiding Litigation” and “Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling.”  The conference will continue all day Thursday and Friday.  Brian will also be visiting donors to Village Missions while in Arizona.

Mike and Judie Jones will be doing an orientation this week with a young

couple entering our internship program. Pray for wisdom and discernment for both them and us as we present our philosophy of ministry.

Pray for another young couple raising support so we can place them in on the field in a internship.

Pray for complete healing for Brian’s Administrative Assistant, Lisa West, who has had carpal tunnel surgery. We are in a busy time of application processing and ‘mouse’ use.

Roy Adrian writes, “I praise God for our missionaries, serving the Lord in remote places, often (usually) far from family and friends – and I praise God for the many who support them personally, and those who support them through the Mission itself. I am thankful for Bill & Lorna Powell, and Henry and Marilyn Vandermeer, who offer personal, hands on support. Happy New Year – and may the blessing of God be upon you as you walk with Him.”

January 12: Kris & Joyce Kramer, Camano Island, WA

Kramer, Kris, JoyceCamano Island is located about ninety minutes north of Seattle.  We are a bedroom community to those working in Everett or further south toward Seattle. Pray for continued wisdom for our mission (orphanage) in Haiti. Pray we can complete our new C.E. building, paying by faith. Pray for direction on reaching out to newcomers to move them toward maturity in fellowship, Bible knowledge, evangelism, and service.

January 5: Mike & Susan Close, Horse Creek, CA

closeHorse Creek is in the mountains of northern California, and is a very rural setting. The nearest town is thirty-five miles away, and this is the only church on a seventy-mile stretch of Hwy 96. Many of the young families find it difficult to make a living here, so our congregation is aging. Our local K-8 school has approximately 15 children, which makes it difficult to have young people’s activities. Please pray for new families and health issues in our aging congregation.

As You Pray This Week

cross prayingHappy New Years!   As we look to the new year, we look forward to what God will do through Village Missions and our Village Missionaries. We are excited about the Village Missions Contenders Discipleship Initiative and the many things that are taking place currently.

Please pray for Village Missions as we seek to find new missionaries to serve on the fields that are waiting. Pray for wisdom for the churches as they await leadership from Village Missions.

Join us each day this year to pray for Village Missions with the 31 Days of Prayer (you can find these daily prayer requests on our FaceBook page).

Roy Adrian writes, “We praise God for the wonderful donors He has provided for our Mission. We have received several ‘surprise’ donations this December, and we thank everyone for their faithful giving. Praise God for His bountiful provision.”
