Sept 28: Tim & Gwen Griffiths, ISC Director of Stewardship, Dallas, OR

griffithsJust over 1½ years ago, our family made the move from the plains of Kansas to the fertile Willamette Valley. We live just outside the hamlet of McCoy, OR, only 20 minutes from Dallas and the VM International Service Center. Every day – regardless of the season – I am constantly reminded of God’s wonderful creation throughout the Willamette Valley. We’ve called this valley home for 1½ years and serve as the Director of Stewardship for Village Missions. A significant part of my job is communication with people. Gwen helps with social media and various in-house publications, as well as teaching and training our three children. The past couple of months I’ve had the opportunity to tell people about Village Missions in New York and South Dakota at music festivals. I’ll be traveling October 3-4 to Bismarck, ND, to represent Village Missions at the STEER Conference. Please pray for our upcoming banquets in New Gloucester, ME, and Dallas, OR. Also, pray for wisdom in the many other projects coming up in the weeks ahead.

As You Pray This Week

man prayingBrian and Carole Wechsler  and Judie and Mike Jones will be attending the last of the mini conferences for the year at Word of Life in upstate New York September 14-17. Please pray for the several couples attending–that they will be encouraged as they head back to their churches ready for ministry.
Pray for Tim and Gwen Griffiths as they travel to the Mountain Central District this week.   Pray for their safety in travel and for the numerous meetings the next couple of weeks.
Please pray for our District Representatives as they travel their regions and visit each of the missionaries and also meet with the church boards.   Please pray for our new District Representatives Joe Murrell and David Hernandez as they learn the ropes.
Please continue to pray for Lisa West, Administrative Assistant as she recovers from surgery.

Roy Adrian writes, “According to the information I have, there are four churches in Village Missions Canada that are willing and engaging in the Contenders Discipleship Initiative. We don’t have actual start-up dates yet, but we ask you to pray for this endeavour. Village Missions Canada needs new missionaries and we are trusting that this is God’s leading to enable us to fill this need.”

September 21: Tom & Amy Gardner, Wesley, ME

gardnertomWesley is a town of about 100 in “Downeast” Maine. The area is one of rich natural beauty, and also of spiritual and economic poverty. Our county, Washington County, is the poorest county in Maine, and the population of Wesley and its surrounding towns has long been declining. The primary industries are cultivating wild blueberries and logging. Wesley Community Church is the only church in the area, with an attendance of around 15-20. Pray that God bless the ministries of His church here, and use us to reach our surrounding community with the gospel.

September 14: Chad & Jenny Haneman, Olmstedville, NY

hanemanLocated in the Adirondack Mountains, Olmstedville sits in the heart of skiing and rafting for the North/Northeast. Lake Placid is 45 minutes away. Logging and tourism are the main employers. Olmstedville sits in the lowest-income county in New York. The main character in the movie, “Twelve Years a Slave” was from Minerva/Olmstedville. Pray for wisdom for the leadership as we strive to get more people involved in the ministry of the church. Pray for direction for a new building on property that was given to the church; pray that we would raise the money needed to pay for it. Pray for clarity to organize our entire church’s teaching (Pre-K-Adults) around the same passage so that families can discuss the same theme after the service & throughout the week.

Pray for our upcoming Candidate School being held September 29 – October 4. Pray for finances for several to make the trip across country to Dallas, OR.

Roy Adrian writes, “Please be praying that God would lay it upon the hearts of people to become a part of this amazing ministry. Our hearts break for the churches which have no pastoral leadership and we are asking God to provide missionary/pastors for those congregations. And as you pray-perhaps there is someone you know who might  be just right for ministering in a rural setting.”

As You Pray This Week

teens prayingThank you so much for praying for Brian and Carole’s vacation!  They had a wonderful time camping at Steens Mountain in southeastern Oregon – away from cell phones and internet and steeped in the beauty of God’s creation!

Please pray for wisdom as we have a “pre-enrollment” meeting with Regence Blue Cross in the Dallas office on September 9.  We understand that there are additional requirements for coverage under ObamaCare as well as the possibility of a significant premium increase for the group plan Village Missions provides for missionaries through the churches we serve.  Most churches are able to provide the full amount of the premium, but some divert funds from salary support, and Village Missions covers a significant amount of premium that the churches are not able to cover – over $100,000 in the previous fiscal year. We are praying that we will be able to hold the line on the premium or find a suitable alternative such as a Christian sharing plan. We have found that not all Christian sharing plans work well with groups, but some do.  Pray for wisdom and God’s provision!

Tim Griffiths and Jeremiah Knoop had a great weekend at the Lifelight Festival in Sioux Falls, SD. We made some great contacts and God opened doors as well.  Thank you for praying.

SEPT. 7: Chris & Naomi White, Rich Valley, AB

whiteRich Valley is neither rich nor a valley. It is an area of hay fields, pasture land, and the occasional oil/gas well. Many of the older farmers/ranchers are retiring and moving away, but many younger families are moving in. As a result, our little elementary school is one of the few in our area that has consistent growth. Our church tries to be heavily in the school as well as other ministries in the area, like providing baby quilts for newborns and a hymn sing at one of the nearby seniors’ homes. Please pray for wisdom as we continue to reach out and as we strive to build up each other in the church. Also, pray for wisdom and direction in regards to the future.
