Awana Project

Village Missions and Awana Clubs International have entered into a collaborative partnership to help small churches use the Awana Club program.

Since 1948, Village Missions has been helping keep country churches alive. Since 1950, Awana has been reaching children and youth for Christ. The acronym Awana comes from Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

Sometimes smaller churches feel they cannot have an Awana program because of limitations involving facilities, finances, and personnel resources. Village Missions and Awana Clubs International have begun working together to overcome those obstacles and develop adaptations uniquely suited to a smaller church.

Village Missions selected fifteen churches to participate in this program. They were selected because of their desire to have a club program and because of their limited resources. The Village Missionaries serving these churches are receiving salary support from Village Missions.

After discussions between the leadership of Village Missions and Awana Clubs International, the fifteen Village Missionary couples and some representatives from their churches were invited to Awana headquarters for a Discover Awana weekend. Here they received orientation to the Awana Club program and met with the Awana missionaries from their local area.

In the Fall 2007, churches received local orientation and began their club program. Our web site, VMAwanaProject.org, will be a place where those participating as well as interested others can interact and network as we seek to develop an Awana Club Program well suited for the smaller church.
